Back Cover Blurb:
A gripping debut psychological crime novel about family lies and dark secrets in an isolated community as a series of women go missing. People still whisper about Lucy Dane’s mother who vanished years ago from the town of Henbane, deep in the Ozark mountains. When one of Lucy’s friends is found murdered, Lucy feels haunted by the two lost women: by the mother she never knew, and the friend she couldn’t protect. But her search for answers, in a place where secrets are easily concealed, leads her to a chilling discovery. And with this revelation, she must grapple with the meaning of family, the secrets we keep, and the lengths we will go to protect the ones we love.

The Weight of Blood is the debut novel from Laura McHugh, but you wouldn't know it. It is so well written that you would think the author was a well known in the world of Crime/Thriller novels.

The Weight of Blood tells the tale of Lucy, 16, distraught at the discovery of her missing friend, Cheri's body and still puzzling over the mystery of her own Mother's disappearance years before.

The town of Henbane is a tight knit community, not welcoming to strangers, outsiders, or those who are deemed to 'different'. Unfortunately both Lucy's Mother, Lila and her friend Cheri fit into those categories.

When Lucy starts to investigate Cheri's murder, she hits brick wall after brick wall, but her suspicions only become stronger. Does Henbane have something to hide? Something to fear, that only its own residents must know about? Lucy is determined to find out the truth. No matter what the cost.

The Weight of Blood is a book that will have you frantically turning the pages to uncover what happens next.

It will leave you questioning just how well you know your neighbours, family etc and wondering just who you can trust.

A fabulous thriller of a debut. I can't wait to read whatever this author has to offer next.

The Weight of Blood is available from 3 July 2014.
You can pre-order it now  from Amazon and Hutchinson.
