Review - Cross Her Heart by Sarah Pinborough

Cross Her Heart by Sarah Pinborough
Publisher: Harper Collins
Release date: 17 May 2018
Back cover blurb:  ‘Cross my heart and hope to die…’ Promises only last if you trust each other, but what if one of you is hiding something? A secret no one could ever guess. Someone is living a lie. Is it Lisa? Maybe it’s her daughter, Ava. Or could it be her best friend, Marilyn? Cross Her Heart publishes Spring 2018. You’ll just have to wait to find out… The explosive new thriller from Sarah Pinborough, author of the Sunday Times Bestselling novel BEHIND HER EYES.

Lisa is celebrating her daughter Ava’s Sixteenth Birthday when she first thinks that things might be a little off.

She tells herself she is being paranoid. No one knows where she is.

For Lisa is harbouring a secret that threatens to turn her whole world upside down should anyone ever find out.

Ava thinks her mother is over protective, smothering, and longs for freedom. Her friends from her competitive swimming club and her boyfriend Courtney offer some relief. But Ava longs for more.

When an older stranger starts messaging her on Facebook, she cannot help but be drawn into his more mature world. To prove to everyone that she is a young woman, and not a kid anymore.

When the unthinkable happens and Lisa’s secret is exposed to the world, their lives are suddenly put in danger. Sadly, I can’t comment anymore without revealing too much.

I will say this though, that I actually enjoyed this even more than the authors previous #WTFthatending.

To me, this novel is more plausible, more realistic and therefore more chilling when you consider what could happen.

Cross Her Heart is available from 17 May 2018.

You can pre-order it now via Amazon online and all good book shops.

Thank You to the publishers who approved my request via netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
